Mobile Workshops
South Florida is not all beaches, palm trees and flamingos. Lured here by the balmy breezes and long growing season, early settlers arrived by train and built compact streetcar-oriented cities in the early 20th century. Explosive growth created today's new Mega-Region. South Florida is now the sixth largest metropolitan area in the United States, with a complex rail, peoplemover, and bus-based transit network. In response to the area's climate, diverse population and desire for results, innovators developed neo-traditional architectural styles, form-based codes and intensive community-based "charrettes." Shaped by the bright, emerging new region, South Florida's transit-oriented developments helped this young, already-congested community improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. Tour registration is limited to two tours per person and includes additional fees. Some last-minute cancellations occur, so there may be extra mobile workshop opportunities available on site.
